she’s hitched! hurrah!
And it’s no surprise, Princess Kate turned it out in a major way. We always knew her fashion sense was, well, innate. She has that edge that makes her the not so common commoner. You know, the girl that obviously knows what she signed up for (ahem, PRINCESS), but also the girl who doesn’t want to lose her fashion cred. There were talks of all sorts of designers working furiously to make the gown. Some said her favorite designer, Issa London, was long anticipated to be her designer du jour for the wedding or maybe it would be Vivienne Westwood or Stella McCartney (I had hoped). So it was quite the surprise (well, I might have predicted it last night after an internet spotting or two) to see her march down the aisle in a stunningly classic ivory and lace Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown. A v-neck lace overlay with a satin a-line skirt and a short lace veil, accompanied by a gorgeous Cartier tiara given to her by the Queen and drop Robinson Pelham earrings given to her by her parents, Princess Kate looked exactly as she should. Stunning, timeless and incredibly happy and might I add… very Grace Kelly-esque!
Her bridesmaids were flanked in none other than Nicki MacFarlane. Sweetly adorned by flowers that matched the new princess’ bouquet, they held on to Pippa’s hand and marched down the aisle in a rather dignified way for two little girls. Her chief bridesmaid and uncanny resemblant sister, Pippa, was radiant and as always, at her sister’s side and also in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen cap sleeved lace floor-length gown and Robinson Pelham earrings gifted to her by her parents.
Chelsy Davy, Prince Harry’s girlfriend, chose two looks by Alberta Ferretti. So chic and so telling of her personality. Vibrant and high fashion. I knew I always liked her.
The men, dressed dapper in their military garb – buttoned up and pinned, certainly made heads turn (Hello, Harry. You’re handsome), but Prince William was most definitely the star of today’s show. Could he be any more delightfully Diana with that charming smile of his? Prince Charles seemed equally jubilant and played the role of future King, quite well.
The Queen was, as predicted, in a sophisticated, age-appropriate suit by Angela Kelly in… canary yellow! So very bold of her and actually, I rather liked it. Ever the stoic, she actually seemed rather pleased with this set of nuptials.
Camilla Parker Bowles certainly didn’t fall short either. Sure, she might have had a big Scarlet A on her chest at the first royal wedding, but not here. No, she looked elegant and timeless in this shift. Notice the hat. Ah, the hats… how can you go wrong when you wear a hat like this with what’s that? Feathers? Bravo.
Of course, there were others to watch. Like, David and Victoria Beckham. Victoria, wearing none other than her own label, Victoria Beckham, a Philip Treacy hat and Christian Louboutin shoes, looked gorgeous and David, well, David just looked hot. Surprise, surprise.
Let’s not forget royal cast-off, Fergie’s spawn, now shall we… Please look at Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and their awesome hats!
Donning a Welsh gold wedding band designed by Wartski and of course, Princess Diana’s beloved 18-carat sapphire ring, Princess Kate is now official. I think it’s safe to say, Waity Katie, this whole thing was worth waiting for, wouldn’t you? All hail, Princess Kate.
Cheers to the new royal couple!
