time is money

but you shouldn’t have to pay for it

I love them both, but I don’t want to ware them out and I’d like to keep them nice for special occasions. Do you have any suggestions for every day formal looking watches that can pass with a suit and tie but aren’t too expensive? I don’t want to spend more than $200.00. I really beat up my watches and want something that will last and pass in a board meeting.

This is a question I get a lot – second probably only to “where can I get a modern looking suit for under $400.00?”. Fear not, I’ll answer that question later this week too. The truth is, really good watches, the kind that last forever and never have problems, generally don’t cost less than $200.00. There are however, a few tried and true wrist ware companies out there that have been presenting working class options for decades or longer. It’s important to know that these are generally factory made options, made by the thousands, and while they may have a descent track record, you’re always going to run the risk of getting a lemon. Word to the wise, if you buy in the store, wind it and wear it while you shop. See how it ticks and feels. If you buy online, always buy from somewhere that allows returns.

With that being said. Here are some of the options I like.

Bulova watches are clean and timeless (no pun intended). Get them for as low as $84.00

Skagen of Denmark is another great option. Buy them at Macys in the $110.00 range

Citizen is a brand that ranges in price but is pretty consistent in quality. Some of their items, like this ar1080, run as low as $99.00
