art in the streets

Running April 17th through August 8th at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) – Los Angeles – Art in the Streets looks at the underground world of street art and its evolution from the 1970’s to the current explosion of contemporaries like Banksy and Shepard Fairy. This is exciting to me as a fashionisto as there is no question that california fashion has been hugely influenced by the artistic reach of everything from dogtown surf culture to “cholo graffiti (there words not mine)” and everything in between.  The exhibition will showcase over 50 primarily LA based artists including Geoff McFetridge. Thanks to Freshness mag for hooking us up with this sneak preview (get it? 😉 of the following Nike SB by McFetridge collaboration. These paper Dunks High are so sleek, each one completely unique and made from classic McFetridge street art. Nike is releasing 24 pairs for auction starting at $100.00 that are sure to go for much more than that. Get yourself to LA on May 26th to slip your feet in a pair yourself. Don’t you just love when art and fashion make babies?!
